Phoenix skin the TIGERS

(apologises for SEVERE lateness)

MANCHESTER PHOENIX     10   -   2    TELFORD TIGERS

Manchester Phoenix demolished the poor injury depleted Telford Tigers 10-2 last night (Thurs 27th of Dec)  at the Silver Blades ice rink in Altrincham. Telford who were missing a couple of key personnel from their starting lineup with Goaltender Declan Ryan ,being the biggest omission from the side, As he was recovering from an illness picked up before Christmas time. They were also missing Thomas Janek, Dimitri Rodin & Patrick Greene in the ranks too.

Phoenix were still missing big defenseman Robert Schnabel & ex-Tiger Andy Mckinney as he had a flu virus, However they did welcome back New Dad, James Archer following the birth of his 1st child over the xmas period.

So the linesmen for the game were Ben Abbott & Elliott Marshall and REFEREE was MR Andrew Miller, So with that Ref Miller dropped the puck and off we went to get this seasonal time game on. The early stages of the game was fast, hard hitting and very level to be fair with Telford looking very competitive and giving as good as Phoenix were at the start, arguably controlling the game as Phoenix looked in shock at how Telford came out.
Both teams had chances, James Archer was thinking he`d broke the deadlock as newly acquired signing Derek Campbell from the Steeldogs had passed to Archer ,But young Brandon Stones in the Tigers goals made a fantastic save to rob him of a goal.

Phoenix then kicked into gear as a misplaced pass by Croft in the Tigers defense went straight on to the stick of Michal Psurny, he took his time cooly slotting it past the Tigers netminder for 1-0 @5:37. As Croft seem to play santa on that play!

Phoenix then picked up a couple of penalties as TOO MANY MEN and a Ciaran Long TRIPPING call had the home side on a 5 on 3 Penalty kill.

Phoenix killed the bench pen ,but not the 2nd one as Telford deservedly got an equaliser through import Jaroslav Kruzik as he carried the puck into the Phoenix zone passed out wide to Luke Brittle that joined in the attack and he gave it straight back and followed the puck in the goals as he slid in with it@8:21.

However the massive contingent of Telford Tigers fans that had made the trip up to North, Were to be disappointed 52 seconds later. As Psurny got his 2nd goal of the game putting it high top corner thanks to assists by Tom Duggan and Ondrej Pozivil at @9:13

Phoenix then thought they had a 3rd as Campbell and Archer combined to set up Tony Hand who breezed round the Telford defense and in slow motion it looked like he dragged Stones out of position and finished off a lovely move putting in the net, But Referee Andrew Miller saw it as a Offside.

Phoenix soon got GOAL 3, With Duggan & Flaten braking into the Tigers zone, giving it to Michal Psurny who went away from goals spun quickly releasing a wrist shot & beating Stones for a 3-1 scoreline, Plus completing a 1st period Hat Trick for the Czech sniper@14:39.

Goal 4 was to follow as Pozivil started it from the Phoenix red line, Up to their zone and Campbell then sent Hand away in the Attacking zone and easily put it away for a 4-1 lead. As it was getting embarrassingly too easy now for Phoenix that goal timed @ 16.19. Telford defense was non-existent and theyr basically hanging poor young Stones out to dry all the time. The horn sounded thankfully for Telford, as the pain was over for at least 15mins for the intermission.

END OF 1ST PERIOD:  MANCHESTER PHOENIX 4  - 1  TELFORD TIGERS

Phoenix were on a 5 on 3 Penalty kill to start the 2nd period, With Penalties to Bari McKenzie for HIGH STICKS & Luke Boothroyd for TRIPPING. Once the Phoenix got back to Full Strength it was a Snowball of goals that followed. Player coach Hand & Campbell found Ondrej Pozivil coming to the front of the net and as he faked a shot to draw the goalie into a move, he then slotted it home for 5-1 @23.14 giving the Jagr Salute.

Ryan Selwood then threw one goal to which the puck bounced awkwardly for Steve Fone in the Phoenix nets, He couldn`t collect it as Callum Bowley was first to get to it but the save fell to Selwood him self as he skated to the net and poked it home for a 5-2 game @ 24.12.

15 seconds later though, Phoenix regained the 4 goal lead as Duggan scored thanks to a play by Flaten as his pass away from goal was turned in by Tom Duggan with Psurny on the assists.
Goal 7 came in the shape of Joachim Flaten as James Neil fired the puck on net on net & Flaten just diverted it as easy as you like in the nets at 27.40 and with that Manchetser changed Netminders as Jorge El Hage then entered the fray as he took over from Steve Fone.

Phoenix still had enough time to get an 8th ,As Ciaran Long jumped up in the air to get an airbourne puck once he brought it down he passed to Luke  Boothroyd who fed it across goal to McKenzie and he tapped home at 36.21 for his 1st Phoenix goal and a 8-2 scoreline as we went into the 2nd break.

END OF 2ND PERIOD : MANCHESTER PHOENIX   8   -  2  TELFORD TIGERS

3rd period wise, Phoenix seemed to play out the the period, But still had 2 more goals to reach the 10 goal mark. As Luke Boothroyd goal that trickled in at the near post past Stones with assists to Psurny & Archer at 49.00 , Then to complete the miserable evening for the Shropshire side, It was player coach Tony Hand driving to the net and putting in Tenth & final goal, After a pass by Richard Bentham and Michal Psurny getting assists at 58:47 for a big win of 10-2 in front of a large crowd at this Festive time!

========================================================================

Special mention to also the Fans of the Telford Tigers who brought a massive amount of fans to Altrincham and made a great atmosphere and sung the whole game getting behind their side. They were a credit to the club and deserve a lot more the whole club than they get.
