One day before Christmas the Eisbären Berlin got a spectacular present from the Straubing Tigers. Berlin won by 8-0. The o2 World was sold out and the fans enjoyed the party. “Everybody noticed that the early opener shocked them” Berlin´s two times scorer Constantin Braun grinned, wearing a Christmas hat. “I am going to celebrate Christmas with my family. After the celebrations we will concentrate ourselves on Wolfsburg”.
Berlin´s Jimmy Sharrow and Mads Christensen took up their performance in Cologne last Friday. They scored the opening goals at the beginning of the first period. Jimmy Sharrow smashed the puck from the right crease into the far left corner at 01:12. Mads Christensen augmented the lead to 2-0 at 09:41. Jamie Arniel put the Danish striker in action with a deep pass to the goal line. Christensen used his chance to outplay Straubing´s goalie Jason Bacashihua with a stick handling move. He scored with a backhand lifter.
At the beginning of the second period the Eisbären stuck to their line of approach. They kept scoring. Constantin Braun used the extra free space on the ice to make it three unanswered goals for his team. Straubing´s goalie Jason Bacashihua couldn´t interfere with his slap shot from the blue line (00:54). Later on it was Florian Busch who scored Berlin´s fourth goal. Barry Tallackson got fouled on his attempt leaving the puck lying free on the ice. Busch took over and wristed the slice into the goal at 16:26 of the period. After the second period the home team led by 4-0.
The Eisbären were motivated until the end of the game. Tyson Mulock carried the puck deep on the right side. He speeded towards Straubing´s goal and converted his wrap around at 06:38 of the third period. Tiger Andrew Canzanello had to leave the ice with a match misconduct for a check against the head (09:54). Berlin´s Darin Olver and Constantin Braun punished him for doing so during the following power play.
Olver augmented the lead to 6-0 by deflecting Julian Talbot´s quick shot from the right crease (12:18). Few seconds later Mark Katic´s shot from the blue line bounced right back from the boards to the front of the goal. Constantin Braun reacted quickly and scored his second goal of the night (14:41).
For Straubing´s goalie Bacashihua it got even worse. Jamie Arniel received Tyson Mulock´s cross the ice pass at the slot area. He finalized the scoring easily with a wrister at 8-0 for Berlin.
“They´re a good team” Straubing´s goalie Jason Bacashihua showed his respect after the defeat. “We didn´t come out and play like we are capable playing – when you do that against a team like Berlin you´re going to lose eight to nothing. We are frustrated because we are not winning hockey games right now. We got to find a way to turn things around. It didn´t make much fun to play today”.
